Long Stitch Afghan
Finished size: Approximately 48” X 62.”
Materials
- Worsted Weight Yarn, approximately
- Color A(Copper) 21 ounces (600 grams, 1440 yards)
- Color B (Green) – 21 ounces (600 grams, 1440 yards)
- Color C (Burgundy)- 20 ounces (570 grams, 1370 yards)
- Color D (Gold)- 20 ounces (570 grams, 1370 yards)
- Crochet hook, size N (9.00 mm) or size needed for gauge
Note: Entire Afghan is worked holding 2 strands of yarn
Gauge: In pattern, 9 sc = 4” and 16 rows = 5”
Color Sequence
4 rows each Color A (As picture) * Color B, Color C, Color D, Color A; repeat from * throughout
Body
With Color A, ch 108 loosely.
Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across, 107
Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across, 107 sc
Row 2-4: Ch 1, turn 1, turn; sc in each sc across
Row 5 (Right side): Using Color B, Ch 1, turn; sc in first 2 sc, *Work Long sc in sc 1 row below next sc
Insert hook in sc as indicated in the first picture. YO and pull up the loop on hook, YO and draw through both loops on the hook as shown in the second picture.(Counts as one SC)
Work Long sc in sc 2 rows below next sc, work Long sc in sc 3 rows below next sc, work Long sc in sc 2 rows below next sc, work Long sc in sc 1 row below next sc, sc next 2 sc, repeat from *across
Note: Loop a short piece of yarn around any stitch to mark the last row as right side.
Row 6-8: Using color C, Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across
Rows 9 – 196: Alternatively changing colors. Repeat Rows 5-8, 47 times as given in Color Sequence.
Finish off
Edging
With right side facing, join Color B with slip st in any st, ch 1 sc evenly around working 3 sc in each corner, join with slip st to first sc, finish off.
